The intervention involved the structural transformation of the Cascina del Borgo into a civic center for cultural and recreational activities. The design approach prioritized the preservation of the historic envelope and the functional redevelopment of the building, with solutions consistent with the constraints of the Superintendence.
The load-bearing structure was completely rebuilt in reinforced concrete and wood, maintaining the original appearance through the reuse of stone and brick materials. The project incorporated accessibility solutions (lift platform, appropriate facilities, horizontal pathways) in compliance with DM 236/1989.
The building envelope was upgraded with a ventilated crawl space, internal insulation, new fixtures, and an insulated roof. The plant system included reversible heat pumps, solar thermal panels, and dedicated air handling units, with systems that are easy to maintain and modular. The intervention pursued a sustainable use of resources, reducing energy consumption and environmental impacts.
